Stamp designed and created in Adobe Illustrator

One of a series of stamps celebrating the Polish community in Ireland. The inspiration behind the design is the traditional Polish folk art of Wycinanki. Wycinanki involves the symmetrical cutting of a silhouette. This is usually overlaid with brightly coloured cut out paper in matching symmetry. The term "Wycinanki" is plural; it refers to more than one paper cutout or the art form in general. A single cut-out is called "Wycinanka". Birds are a frequent theme in Wycinanki and all stamps in the series feature birds, along with the brilliant colours found in much folk art and traditional costume from Poland.
